Is It a Good Decision to Drop a Year for IIT JEE?

I am not well prepared for JEE this year, should I drop?

I’m not happy with my score, I can do better. Should I drop this year?

These types of questions are often asked by many students.

The best answer to this question is “you should not drop”.

Dropping a year means simply wasting a year. If you have not prepared well, don’t drop a year.

Instead take an attempt and know the question pattern, get familiarised with the stress level.

Now, if you feel that your score is not good and you need to take another attempt, you can go for it.

Cracking IIT JEE in the First Attempt:

Students should not neglect any of the exams, as they can crack it in one attempt.

Preparing for both class 12 Board exams and IIT JEE is not a tough task, if there is a good strategy. Most of the students who appear JEE Main belong to this category. So, you can also crack the exam if your preparation and strategy is well. Fasten your seat belt and study with full concentration to crack both the exams.

IIT JEE syllabus is same as the syllabus of CBSE, ICSE and State Board exams.

The students who appear for the Board Exam in February – March can easily crack IIT JEE , conducted in April every year. Because they have touch with the syllabus.

A year drop for IIT JEE preparation means you have to invest more time and money. Whereas, you can crack IIT JEE with a few months’ strategy.

Taking a drop for IIT JEE

Dropping a year for IIT JEE preparation is a good decision to release the pressure of Board exams. Cracking IIT JEE needs patience, good preparation, and a cool mind. If you take stress, it becomes difficult to crack the JEE exam.

It’s better to take a drop and prepare for IIT JEE.

Advantages of Dropping:

  1. Students do not get enough time to revise the complete syllabus of IIT JEE while appearing for Board exam. Dropping a year will provide them enough time to revise the complete syllabus.
  2. Students should not feel discouraged by thinking that their classmates are ahead of them. Rather they should give importance to their own career.
  3. Dropping a year to get a seat in one of the IITs is worth it.
  4. Students should take the first attempt to crack IIT JEE but they should not take it as the final attempt. Because with better preparation of one year, they can get a higher rank.

Disadvantages of Dropping:

  1. Candidates have only 3 attempts to appear for the JEE Main exam. The attempt starts from the year a candidate is appearing for class 12. If the candidate will drop a year or two for better preparation, they will lose their number of attempts.
  2. Candidates who decide to drop a year need to study the concepts again. They have to invest more time and money in preparation.
  3. Candidates cannot be in risk by taking a drop as chances of scoring a good rank in the next year can be risky and can demotivate them

Conclusion:

Every single thing has its advantages and disadvantages. Dropping a year to get a good rank in IIT JEE also has its merits and demerits. If you want to pursue your dream then you need to drop a year for better preparation or crack the exam in your first attempt. You should not feel ashamed of dropping a year or shouldn’t feel low. Because at the end of the day, you have to follow your dream.
